Content Tab
The content tab contains most of the text content on the page you are editing, and it will be the tab that you use most often. As a result, this is the tab that you automatically go to when editing a page. Within this tab, you will see several link labels and text entry fields.
Each of the entry fields is collapsible, meaning that you can hide it when not in use. Click any one of the link labels to see how it works. Clicking it toggles it to either open or close. By default, some of the entry fields will be closed if they are empty. To make use of them, simply click on the link label and it will open. Each of the text entry fields is described below.
Subpages
Click this link label to show a list of subpages below this page. Technically this is not a text entry field. From here you may “drill down” to any pages below. This operates exactly like the your main Pages tab at the top that you may have seen when you logged into Dictator. You can perform any of the actions that you can from the main Pages screen, such as editing another page, sorting pages, or creating a new page.Name
Required. This field indicates the name of the page. This is the name that appears in your navigation. This name also appears as the page’s headline (if the ‘Headline’ field is left blank, see below).Headline
Optional. In some cases, you may want to specify the page’s name and headline to be different. For example, you may want the name to be “About Us” in your navigation, while you want the headline to be “About Ryan Cramer Design” when the user clicks to that page. If this is the case, then you should make use of this Headline field. The headline can also be used to specify a URL that you’d like the page to automatically redirect to. See Automatically Redirecting a Page for more information.Authors
Optional. This feature is not used by all Dictator installations. If used in your installation, this allows you to specify one or more authors for the page. This is most commonly used for news sites.Subtitle
Optional. This is a secondary headline (aka subtitle). It is usually less prominent then your headline, but more prominent then your body copy.Body
Required. Contains the body copy for your page. This is usually the largest block of text.Sidebar
Optional. If your site design supports it, the sidebar text is used as a way to place secondary level content on your page. For example, you might place testimonial quotes, links to related resources, or some related text in your sidebar.Excerpt
Optional. Contains a summary or excerpt of the content on your page. While this excerpt copy does not appear anywhere on the page when you view it, it will appear as an excerpt in search results or subpage listings elsewhere on your site (if used in your site’s design). If Ryan Cramer Design, LLC has not given you instructions specific to using the Excerpt field, then you may not need to make use of it.Date Stamp
Optional. If the content on this page is relevant to a specific date, then you should specify it here. For instance, you may find it valuable to use this with press releases, news articles, and more. In some cases, pages on your site may be sorted by date. If that instance, the date stamp also serves as a way to tell Dictator what order this page should belongs in.
